Watch people who are faster than you, compare their lines to yours. Check split times to see where you are losing time. Upload an hotlap to LFSW and compare it with others if you don't mind the effort. Maybe try another setup if you haven't already. Experiment a bit with controller settings. It's hard to tell much more than that without at least a replay. Good luck.
It's good fun. Aerials are nowhere as important as in soccer so it's a bit more relaxed and newbie-friendly. It's a lot about wall-game because the puck likes to slide there, plus using the walls to center-ball is the best way to score.
Anyone playing here? Basically, it's a soccer game with futuristic/fantasy cars. With other mods like hockey included. From 1vs1 to 4vs4. It's multiplayer based, you can play competitively or you can play with your friends for a laugh, depending on the mood. Pretty hard game, with a big learning curve, but very rewarding when you get it right.
Good thing with the G27 is that it has a clutch pedal and a H-shifter. Something you will struggle to find with cheaper wheels. And the absence of it kind of defeats the purpose of real-life road training. I don't recommend buying anything second hand, wheels(or rather pedals in fact, especially from Logitech) are quite fragile.
Of course, buying a G27 just for training purposes doesn't seem like a very good deal. You might aswell buy a few extra driving lessons instead, and still have some spare money for other stuff. But if you're really interested in playing LFS again(and other sims/games), then yea... it's worth it
I could see how it could give you an edge over simple things like basic car control or gear changes. But frankly the hardest part of driving tests isn't really controlling a car, but doing so in a city environment, with lots of other road users around you, while respecting traffic rules. I'm not sure if LFS can help you with this, but if it can, cruise servers would be a good place to try.
Updated SO doesn't necessary mean altered layout. Instead it could mean an expansion(my guess would be new/existing roads available to access via open configs, possibly 1 or 2 new configurations). After all SO has already had one pretty big update since the S1 days, plus 2 new configurations(SO5 and SO6), and yet the track layout has pretty much remained unchanged over the years.
Speculation at this point, of course...
Partly agree about Westhill, I like the new version but the old one had its charm and I wish it was still available.
Made me realise that the only bike racing sim that really took off is almost 17 - remember GP500?
Sadly the lack of a realistic and mass-producted controller will always be a limiting factor I guess.
I remember that once iRacing mentioned bikes in a customer poll, but I guess it was more an interest check rather than anything serious - even they are wise enough not to get into such murky waters
Oh, it's no big "secret" - Concept Racing used it for an event back in 2011, Genuine and MTDZX used it for public racing in 2011 and 2015 respectively, and as you said, CESAV held an event on it recently(creativity points for the pitlane and slab use BTW, shows that we don't need ramps afterall) - more something that gets constantly overlooked for some reason.
Really hyped for a potential South City update anyway, if it ever happens of course. By far the current map with the most untapped potential, especially with open configs.
I think the most intriguing "hidden track" is the South City one in the last video. It drives just as any other track, it has flow and good elevation changes. It even has cameras installed... Now that we have open configs and ramps at South City we can even race on it, all we have to do is put ramps to bypass the walls surrounding it. Not many people seem to realize that yet, sadly. It would be nice if the devs removed the barriers accessing the track on open configs, so we could scrap ramps altogether. I've always wondered if it is a track that was supposed to make it to S2 but got scrapped at some stage of development, long, long ago. Because the basics are there, the main missing point now is the scenery. South City Sprint 3, South City Enduro... Sounds good right?
Aston bridge and Autocross hidden kart track can be accessed more easily nowadays with open configs. I've even seen the Aston bridge used on a layout once(easier to do with new autocross objects).
The rest of them is mostly access and peripheral roads really, interesting but you can't use really use them.
"Secret track 5" is the Aston bridge, which is just before AS2's turn 1. Just put a layout start point on top of it, preferably on an open config.
Trying to access the rest of them will mostly result in you getting out of bounds, not sure how Chudy does it.
Giving a license to the fastest lap holder could result in guys with nothing to lose pitting for R2s and doing qualifying runs in the middle of the race, which kind of defeats the point of a 250 kilometers event IMO.
In GP2/GP3 there are additional points for fastest laps, but you need to be in the top 10 to score them, which does a good enough job at preventing this kind of shenanigans.
Formula BMW UK/Intersteps used to race at Rockingham a few years ago. Maybe there's a place where you could get the times, I don't know. James Peace used to race there, though I'm not sure if he's still around on LFS.
Though I'm not sure real life/sim times comparison will tell you a lot, there are a lot of factors coming into play, like tyres, grip, driver, etc.
Of course if you look at it as a "£12 for one track" thing it's not a good deal. But for me it goes further than that. It's a) a way to reward the fun had in S2, because IMHO, and as long as you stay out of countries with really low-costs of living or bad exchange rates, £24 was a steal, given the quality of the content and the ridiculous hours of play you can out of it. So I don't mind giving a small reward to everyday people who brought me years of quality entertainment. And b) as a sort of crowdfunding thing. Just looking at the join dates on the forum and seeing few people from 2013-2015, I'm sure the last few years were probably not very great for LFS financially. So yea, maybe some cash flow was needed at some point...? Like, "show me the money and we'll give you this track first, then if/whenever we have more we'll give it to you too". As with crowdfunding projects it's a little gamble if the guaranteed product offered isn't worth the money in your eyes, of course. But hey, life is about gambles Personally I think it'll still take time for more content, maybe years, but I don't mind because it will be quality stuff, because that's what Scavier have always done. Of course it will never be the same as the "good old days", but so what... Life goes on
tl;dr. Think it's worth it, good. Think it's not, too bad. Many other games or sims out there, and each offer something else. Why be bitter about it, I have no idea. It's not like anyone owes anyone else anything here
That oval chicane... It makes Eric's chicanes look totally safe
Apart from that I am really hyped to drive on a new map
S2 remains by far the best £24 I've ever spent. I don't mind paying an extra £12 eight years later, even if it turned out to be for just one track in the end. But that's just me
